cacti in the night

Like the smile of an addict

browning since puberty

yellowed by the wear

Of service as an accessory,

to the stimulus, owed.

Slow deterioration,

Enamel to paint

A continuous digging

through the meninges.

Addiction’s alma Mater.

A process slow and permanent

masked by the casualties

Of our shared routines
